Access 2010 installation debacle

Since becoming an Apple user a couple years back, I am still amazed at the level of anxiety one can experience by doing even the most mundane tasks on a Microsoft Windows Vista computer.

____
This is a tale of installing Microsoft Access 2010.

A client had some needs for Microsoft Access 2010.  To help out I decided to install Access 2010.  I installed a trial version and then purchased and downloaded a full version ($139.99).

I installed the software...but not without an error (see below).

I did, as software instructed, called the Microsoft Support Services (PSS).  I spoke to Shanni (?).  She was very nice.  She instructed me to uninstall all prior versions of Microsoft Office (which was 2007).

During the process, Microsoft was kind enough to do a system update automatically.  So our conversation was suspended as we waited many many minutes for the updates to configure themselves.  Then waited even longer for the system to restart.
